Facebook is considered to be the most popular social media platform in the world and its use has revealed a strange effect on people.
Facebook users have a lower risk of premature death from heart disease than those who make friends on social media. This claim came out in a study in America. A study by University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center found that friends with wealthier people on Facebook reduced medical risks. Social networks can be important for health because people's interactions there can have long-term effects, the researchers said.
For the study, data on more than 9 lakh deaths of people aged 25 to 65 between 2018 and 2020 was examined.
The results showed that consumers who befriended wealthy individuals had a lower risk of premature death from cardiovascular disease. Even after taking age, gender, and other factors into account, Facebook's odd advantage proved to be the case.
More research is needed to find out why, the researchers said, but it appears that being friends with wealthier people increases people's chances of economic advancement.
Such friendships can provide people with educational and employment opportunities while adopting good heart-healthy habits, he said.
In this way, people are not only economically stronger but their health is also benefited on a long-term basis.
The results of this study were presented at the annual meeting of the American College of Cardiology.
